Treatment for diverticulitis
A diet rich in vegetables and whole-grain cereals may help to prevent diverticulitis. The ailment is known to be less common among vegetarians than those who include meat in their diet. Vegetarian diets are typically higher in fiber-rich foods, such as vegetables, fruits and cereals. However, excessive fiber, particularly too much bran, can create other digestive problems; for example, studies have suggested that it can irritate the colon. It is important to increase fiber intake gradually, giving the body a chance to get used to it. If you have diverticulitis disease, do not start taking fiber supplements without first discussing this with your doctor.
