Herpes diet and treatment

If you have a warning symptom before an outbreak of oral herpes, prompt use of aspirin and ice packs is sometimes considered as a treatment from the recurrence. Once the lesions appear, compresses of cold water or milk may ease the discomfort. To help protect others from infection, avoid kissing anyone or sharing dishes or utensils during outbreaks. For genital outbreaks, warm baths or saltwater help ease inflammation. Keep the infected area clean and dry. Wash your hands after contact with the sores to avoid spreading infection to other parts of your body. Type 2 herpes is very contagious; those infected should never have sexual contact with noninfected persons during an attack. Always tell any prospective sexual partner that you are infected with herpes. Latex condoms may lower, hut cannot eliminate, risk of sexual transmission. Eat a nutritious diet. To help prevent recurrences, strengthen your immune system to resist disease by eating a well-balanced diet with plenty of whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, and get enough protein. Don’t siuoke; avoid excessive alcohol and caffeine. Balance your lifestyle with regular exercise and adequate rest to alleviate stress. Avoid excessive sun exposure, and always wear a sunscreen. It is important that you do not take high doses of vitamin C; studies indicate these can actually provoke a recurrence of herpes.
